Friendless Frenemies

Since 1st grade, I've only had one friend, and we've been linked at the hip. We've been in 6th grade for a while, and she's becoming distant. She started hanging out with the popular kids, and she's totally ignoring me during school, but after school she acts like nothing is wrong. What should I do? She's kind of my only friend.

Dear Friendless Frenemies,
You might want to find other people to hang out with. Sure, it might be difficult, but nothing is impossible. I'm sure that there are people who would love to be your friend! Your friend also might be feeling the pressure of fitting in at middle school, so give her some time to cool off and ask her about it in a few weeks. One final thing that I really hate to say but is quite possible, is that maybe your friend is trying to move away from you. Good luck!
Sincerely,

Secret Obsession

I have a secret - I'm obsessed with something totally out of the scene, without a doubt out of it. Only my BFF knows about it, and yesterday it "slipped out of her mouth" when she was talking to the biggest gossip in the ENTIRE school. Of course, we're still tight, but she stil leaked it. Now I'm trying to deal with middle school mortification AND a possibly betraying BFF. What should I do?

Dear Secret Obsession,
I've been in this sort of situation before - trust me. The thing is, people are like that. Let your BFF go the first time. If she does it again (or has done it before), then there's something to worry about. As for the secret being leaked, sometimes, you can turn it into a really cool story if you can think of one, or even straight out deny it. But, if you don't want to lie, even the SLIGHTEST bit, you should just be honest, and know that nobody should care what you like, not even you.
Sincerely,
It's A Secret

BFFs (Best Feuding Friends)

My two best friends in the entire world are totally against each other. They fight over me and get into violent fights that often cause multiple bruises and scrapes, but they say that it's worth it because they think that they're beginning to get rid of each other. That is SO not the case, though. They won't let me share them. I've often come home from school crying because of it. HELP!

Dear BFFs (Best Feuding Friends),
Try inviting a new friend into your group so that they can work out their problems, meanwhile you can be with that other person. Refuse to spend time with them until they work out their problems. Even though this might get even more violent, It's definitely better than having to watch it. If they really are your best friends, they'll learn how to work it out eventually. If not, tell them that you guys need a break. Then they'll probably stop, because there isn't anything to fight over. Then, slowly try to bring them back, one by one, spending one-on-one time with them and try to figure out why they hate each other that they're willing to seriously injure each other.
Sincerely,
It's A Secret

Dorky Diva

I love to sing, and I've auditioned for more TV shows than you can imagine, but there IS one catch. I'm a total DORK! A lot of competitions I've entered are based on looks, and I'm a freckle-faced, frizzy brown-haired, wimp-glassed FREAK! HELP!

Dear Dorky Diva,
I suggest that you show off to the stupid judges that base you on your looks. If it's an all-singing competition, than they shouldn't think twice about your looks! If you insist on changing your look, use hairspray or gel to make your hair less crazy. Get 'cool' glasses like Ray-Bans, like I told Geeked Out-Cast earlier. As far as freckles go, I have tons of them too, and they really aren't that bad. But if you care that much, try concealer. Put it on the areas with freckles (or your whole face) and Voila! If that doesn't work, then I don't know what will.

Scared Sixth-Grader

I'm transferring to a new middle school in a month, and I'm worried that nobody is going to like me. Please help me with some 'words of wisdom' about being new and not knowing anybody!!!!

Dear Scared Sixth-Grader,
Don't worry. Everything will be fine. You just have to find ways to make yourself stand out so that people notice you. If there's a uniform, try finding ways around it to jazz up your appearance. Be nice to everybody, even if they aren't nice to you, and be yourself.
Sincerely,
